A New Twist on the Classics
1966 Quartet, a group renowned for their reinterpretations of Western pop and rock covers built through classical foundations, is celebrating their 15th anniversary with a debut appearance at Blue Note Place. The group’s exhilarating blend of classical precision and rock spirit will deliver a vibrant performance.
They will perform songs from their two new albums “The Set List” and “Cover of Cover,” which were released simultaneously on August 27. The performance will be split into two shows, with the quartet performing from “The Set List” during the first show and “Cover of Cover” during the following show. Performers include Risa Matsuura as the leader on violin, Yuki Hanai on violin, Rieko Ito on cello and Minori Masuda on piano.
1966 Quartet made their CD debut with “Norwegian Wood – The Beatles Classics” on Nippon Columbia in 2010 and held their debut recital at Oji Hall. After covering classics from Queen and Michael Jackson in 2011 and 2012 respectively, the group returned to their roots with “HELP!” in 2013, focusing on the Beatles. “Abbey Road Sonata” (2014) was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London.
