When 10DANCE was first announced as a live-action film, it immediately registered as something more than a routine adaptation. Based on Inoue Sato’s hugely popular manga, the project brings together two of Japan’s most recognizable actors — Ryoma Takeuchi and Keita Machida — for a story that fans have been fiercely protective of for years.

The drama focuses on the hyper-competitive world of ballroom dancing: a world where physical intensity meets high-stakes ambition, where chemistry matters just as much as technical skill and artistry. Takeuchi and Machida play a pair of rival dancers, both named Shinya. As they compete, per Netflix, they find themselves “consumed by shared passion, rivalry, jealousy and desire.”

The film will begin streaming on Netflix starting from December 18, 2025.

The Premise of 10DANCE

The film follows two top-tier professional dancers from opposing disciplines. Shinya Suzuki, played by Takeuchi, reigns over Latin dance, while Shinya Sugiki (Machida) dominates standard ballroom. When they are drawn into the punishing “10-dance” competition — which demands mastery of 10 dances, five Latin and five standard — the two rivals are forced to train together, pushing their bodies and pride to the limit.

Long celebrated as a genre-defining competitive dance manga, 10DANCE has built a devoted following for its detailed portrayal of ballroom culture — and for the intensity of the two male characters’ chemistry. The Netflix adaptation promises to translate that obsession faithfully to the screen, directed by Keishi Ohtomo and developed with the involvement of top-tier professional dancers.

A Star-Studded Cast

Even ahead of its release, 10DANCE is generating major excitement, and much of it centers on the casting. The pairing of Takeuchi and Machida has been widely praised as a near-perfect match for the manga’s dual protagonists. Takeuchi, in particular, has drawn attention for tackling ballroom dance for the first time in his career, with fans eager to see how his athleticism and screen presence translate to the floor.

For fans of the manga, 10DANCE is a long-awaited chance to see its demanding, sensual world translated into physical performance. For Netflix, it marks one of its boldest Japanese titles yet — one that recognizes how rivalry, closeness and discipline generate a tension that lingers well beyond the dance floor.
