Rainbow Line Overview
Rainbow Line is a picturesque 11-kilometer toll road that winds through the mountains of Wakasa Bay Quasi-National Park in Fukui Prefecture. The road connects the shores of Lake Suigetsu to mountain observation points, offering visitors breathtaking panoramic views of the Mikata Five Lakes (Mikata Goko) and the Sea of Japan beyond.

Best Times To Visit Rainbow Line
The most popular time to visit Rainbow Line is during spring (April to May) when temperatures are mild. Autumn (October to November) is equally spectacular, with fall foliage painting the mountainsides in vibrant reds and golds, creating a stunning contrast with the blue lakes below.
Summer months offer the clearest visibility for long-distance views across Wakasa Bay, though the area can be humid. Winter visits are possible, but the road may close temporarily during heavy snowfall, so checking ahead is recommended. Early morning visits, regardless of season, provide the best chance for mist-free panoramic views and golden hour photography opportunities.
