Enter the World of Ghost in the Shell

The first ever large-scale exhibition solely dedicated to the hit manga and anime series Ghost in the Shell will be held at Tokyo Node in Toranomon Hills, from January 30 to April 5.

“Ghost in the Shell: The Exhibition” will cover the nearly 30-year history of the internationally-beloved franchise with the support of Production IG, the animation studio that has produced all of the series’ works since the 1995 theatrical release Ghost in the Shell, and Science Saru, the studio creating the new anime scheduled to air later this year.

Over 1600 archive items will be on display, including works by past directors such as Mamoru Oshii, Kenji Kamiyama, Kazuchika Kise and Shinji Aramaki. Fans can get an up close look at original drawings, background paintings, storyboards and previously unreleased materials created during the entire production process of the Ghost in the Shell series.

Bringing out the core philosophies explored in the series, the exhibition prompts guests to think about their own humanity and our evolving relationship with technology. The venue’s atrium will house a special installation with countless cables pouring down from the 15-meter-high ceiling, connecting to monitors like bundles of nerves and activating a massive cybernetic network.

The exhibition combines anime, technology and art for a true celebratory deep-dive into a series that has transcended time and cultural boundaries.

Several events and talk shows will be hosted at Tokyo Node during the exhibition period. Please check the website for the schedule. Tokyo Node will also have a variety of exclusive merchandise.

Tickets are available through various ticket agencies including LivePocket and Lawson Ticket, and also at the venue counter. Please be aware of the varying business hours. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing each day.
