Nagashima Spa Land Overview
Located in Kuwana city, Mie Prefecture — just across the Nagara River from Aichi Prefecture — Nagashima Spa Land is one of Japan’s largest and most popular resort complexes. Part of the wider Nagashima Resort, the facility combines a major amusement park, a large hot spring spa, a water park and an outlet mall into a single expansive destination, drawing over 5 million visitors annually.
The amusement park is the centerpiece of the complex and is best known for its exceptional roller coaster lineup. With over 10 coasters on site, it ranks among the top coaster destinations in Asia. Highlights include Steel Dragon 2000, one of the longest steel roller coasters in the world at approximately 2,479 meters, and White Cyclone’s successor, Hakugei, a hybrid wooden-steel coaster redesigned by Rocky Mountain Construction that opened in 2019 and quickly became one of the most acclaimed coasters in Japan. Families are equally well catered for, with gentler rides, a Ferris wheel and dedicated children’s areas throughout the park.
Beyond the rides, Nagashima Spa Land’s Yunohana hot spring facility offers a welcome contrast, with indoor and outdoor baths fed by natural hot spring water. The adjacent Nagashima Resort Outlet, one of Japan’s largest outlet shopping centers, rounds out the resort experience, making Nagashima a popular destination for a wide range of visitors.

Best Times To Visit Nagashima Spa Land
Summer is the peak season, when the adjacent Nagashima Spaland Water Park opens and extended evening hours are offered, often accompanied by fireworks displays. While the atmosphere is festive, crowds are at their heaviest during this period, particularly on weekends and throughout the Obon holiday in mid-August.
Spring and autumn offer more comfortable temperatures and thinner crowds, making them ideal for those prioritizing the roller coasters and amusement park attractions. The resort is also popular during the winter holiday season, when Nagashima Resort’s illumination event — one of the largest light displays in Japan — transforms the complex into a dazzling nighttime attraction from November through March. Weekday visits year-round offer noticeably shorter wait times for popular rides.
