A Shrine for Breakups

Tinder Japan will open up their very own shrine, Tinja, from September 12 to September 15 in Shibuya. The name “Tinja” combines “Tinder” with jinja, or Shinto shrine. With a theme of “cutting ties,” the pop-up shrine invites guests to relieve themselves from past toxic relationships and finally find closure.

Tinja will have a variety of activities to help visitors move on from their negative experiences. The Moyasanakya (translating to “I need to burn it”) exhibition will display anonymous stories of broken relationships, submitted by participants online.

Guests can also partake in a fortune-telling experience. Participants who are registered on the Tinder dating app can upgrade to see a professional fortune-teller.

The event will serve refreshing jelly drinks called “Tinja Ale” —a play on the Japanese pronunciation of ginger ale.
