When Kawaii Meets Creepy
In an unexpected collaboration, horror manga artist Junji Ito and Sanrio will join forces for a touring pop-up shop. After popular demand from last year’s collaboration, the two powerhouses are back with a unique line of merchandise featuring their iconic characters.
The pop-up shop will be open from December 5 to December 28 at Shibuya Parco, from December 24 to January 12 at Shinsaibashi Parco, and from February 6 to February 23 at Fukuoka Parco. To reduce congestion, admission into the pop-up shop will be run through a lottery system on select dates. To apply for the Shibuya Parco lottery, please check the event website.

The collaboration will feature five collections. The Kimono Tomie collection features the title character of Tomie dressed in a furisode kimono and various motifs tying to Hello Kitty. The collection includes various goods including acrylic stands, bookmarks, hand mirrors, T-shirts and posters.
To celebrate the 50th and 20th anniversaries of My Melody and Kuromi respectively, Tomie will also be dressed in gyaru style. The collection includes clear files, hair clips, tote bags and hoodies.
The Parody, Yakayoshi Deforume and Yuru Tacchi collections feature various Junji Ito characters together with Sanrio friends for an interesting contrast. These collections include badges, magnets, memo sets, mini towels, keychains and mugs.
During the event period, for every ¥3300 spent at the pop-up shop, customers will receive a random holographic postcard. Postcards are given at random, and designs change at each venue.
