Experience the Powerful Vocals of Cécile McLorin Salvant
Cécile McLorin Salvant, three-time Grammy winner for Best Jazz Vocal Album, is coming to Tokyo. Salvant is often regarded as one of the most highly regarded jazz vocalists. And for only three nights, she’s is making her comeback at Blue Note Tokyo, performing there for the first time in seven years.
Salvant was born in Miami, Florida to a French-Haitian family and rose to fame after winning in the vocal category at the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition. Her first-place win included a recording contract with Mack Avenue Records, with whom she released her next five albums. She has now released a total of seven albums since 2010, six of which were nominated for Grammy awards. She was also nominated in two award categories at the Jazz Journalists Association Awards.
For her performance at Blue Note Tokyo, Salvant will appear in a quartet with musical partner Sullivan Fortner on piano, alongside Yasushi Nakamura on bass and Kyle Poole on drums.
Sullivan Fortner began playing the piano at just age four, and the organ at the age of seven. He was praised by the New York Times as “a performer with a strong foundation and a composer/bandleader of amazing maturity.” Yasushi Nakamura began his musical career studying at the Berklee College of Music and the Julliard School. He has toured with artists including Yoshiko Akiyoshi, Hank Jones and Christian Sands, and also released his own albums such as A Lifetime Treasure. Kyle Poole trained under master drummers Michael Carvin, Greg Hutchinson and Ulysses Owens Jr.
