Aki Sasamoto’s Life Laboratory – Exploring 20 Years of Creative Experimentation
The Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo is pleased to announce Aki Sasamoto’s Life Laboratory, running from August 23 to November 24, 2025. This is the first mid-career retrospective of Aki Sasamoto (b. 1980), an artist known for her improvisational performances using sculptures and devices she designs and arranges as dynamic scores in immersive installations.
The exhibition traces Sasamoto’s unique practice over two decades, showcasing works that interweave humor, introspection and profound questions. From her early signature pieces to recent kinetic creations, the show examines her explorations of the relationship between form and performance. Sasamoto’s multifaceted artistry spans performance, dance, installation and video, frequently crossing boundaries between visual and performing arts.
