It was quite a year. Whatever you remember 2011 for, it will not be easy to forget and, with the Press Photo 2012 there are plenty of opportunities to jog your memory.

The annual exhibition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography runs until August 5th – there is not much time left to see the images. Japan’s March 2011 earthquake and tsunami features prominently (pictured above is an image which won 3rd prize in the General News category) but photojournalists working in 124 different countries submitted their pictures.

Judges from the organization whittled them down and awarded various prizes, and now they are on display. The event tours the world showcasing visual storytelling at its best and is well worth a visit – whether you go for the hard news images or the intriguing selection from the world of sport or even nature, there will be something to catch the eye.
