Tokyo Skytree

The world's tallest tower offering breathtaking views of Tokyo and beyond

Standing at 634 meters tall, Tokyo Skytree is the world’s tallest tower and one of Tokyo’s most recognizable landmarks. Located in the Oshiage district of Sumida Ward, this broadcasting and observation tower opened in 2012 and has since become an essential stop for visitors to the capital. The tower’s sleek, modern design draws inspiration from traditional Japanese architecture, with a cylindrical shaft that gradually transitions from a triangular base to a circular top.

Tokyo Skytree features two observation decks: the Tembo Deck at 350 meters and the Tembo Galleria at 450 meters. On clear days, visitors can see Mount Fuji and enjoy panoramic views stretching across the Kanto Plain. The tower is surrounded by Tokyo Skytree Town, a sprawling complex featuring over 300 shops and restaurants, an aquarium, and a planetarium. Whether you’re interested in shopping, dining, or simply taking in the views, Tokyo Skytree offers something for everyone.

Beyond its role as a tourist attraction, Tokyo Skytree serves as a digital broadcasting tower, replacing the aging Tokyo Tower for television and radio transmission. Its height was specifically chosen to represent the historic name of the Musashi Province, with “mu” (6), “sa” (3), and “shi” (4) forming 634.

Best Times To Visit Tokyo Skytree

The best time to visit Tokyo Skytree depends on what you want to see. For the clearest views, winter months from December to February offer crisp air and better visibility, making it easier to spot Mount Fuji on the horizon. Spring brings beautiful cherry blossom views in nearby Sumida Park, while autumn provides stunning foliage colors across the city.

Timing your visit for sunset allows you to experience both daytime and nighttime views of Tokyo in one trip. The tower also features seasonal illuminations that change throughout the year, creating a magical atmosphere. Weekday mornings tend to be less crowded than weekends and holidays, allowing for a more relaxed experience at the observation decks.

How To Get to Tokyo Skytree
