Mother Farm Overview
Mother Farm is a sightseeing farm located in Futtsu city, Chiba prefecture, spread across 250 hectares of rolling hills overlooking Tokyo Bay and Mt. Fuji. Opened in 1962, it has grown into one of the region’s most popular day-trip destinations for families, couples and nature lovers looking to escape the city.
Guests can interact with a variety of animals, including sheep, alpacas, capybaras and ostriches — and the experience goes well beyond just watching. Cow milking, horse riding and animal feeding are all on offer, as are crowd-pleasing shows like the Great Sheep March, where a herd of around 150 sheep runs across the grounds (not held in July and August). Thrill-seekers will also find rides, zip lines and go-karts scattered across the property.
Seasonal flower fields are another major draw. The grounds shift dramatically with the seasons, from rapeseed blossoms and strawberry picking in spring to cosmos and autumn foliage come September. Fresh farm produce, handmade craft workshops, an amusement park and a selection of restaurants and cafes round out what is easily a full day’s worth of exploration.

Best Times To Visit Mother Farm
Mother Farm is open year-round, and each season brings something different. Spring (March–May) is arguably the most popular time to visit, with rapeseed flower fields in full bloom and strawberry picking in season. Autumn (September–November) is equally scenic, with cosmos carpeting the hillsides alongside vibrant fall foliage. Summer is lively but can be hot, and note that the Sheep March show is suspended in July and August. Winter visits tend to be quieter, though the hilltop location means cold temperatures and strong winds — dress accordingly. Whenever you go, arriving early on weekdays is the best way to avoid crowds and catch the full lineup of shows and activities.
