Tokyo Goldfish Wonderland
Perfect for the scorching hot dog days in Tokyo, Sumida Aquarium has opened a small exhibit, displaying more than 20 kinds of goldfish in various shapes, colors and sizes. Sakura Inoue, a 17 year-old TV star who is well known for her thick eyebrows, and Sakana-kun, a comedian who is referred to as the fish boy of Japan, welcomed the opening of the Tokyo Goldfish Wonderland on July 10. They chatted about their love for goldfish, and took a walk down memory lane and reminisced about their first encounter with goldfish when they were still little. Goldfish is one of the symbols of summer in Japan, found at every summer festival in every town.
The goldfish-themed exhibit is lit up with more than 100 goldfish lanterns, and the various tanks are decorated with Edo period motifs. Along with the exhibit, they also have limited edition goldfish-themed soda drinks that will freshen you up ’til the end of the broiling day.
Children will rejoice when they find out about a small goldfish amezaiku (Japanese candy crafting) corner near the Sumida stage that will keep them on a sugar rush throughout the whole aquarium visit. These crafted candies vary in shapes, colors and sizes, just like the fish inside the exhibit.
