Jonathan Katz is band leader for Tokyo Big Band

Tokyo Big Band Live @ Cotton Club

TOKYO BIG BAND is a 17-piece ensemble of stellar musicians founded in 2008 by New York native and 28-year Tokyo resident Jonathan Katz. A versatile pianist who has worked with artists ranging from jazz greats Ray Brown and Kenny Burrell to enka star Itsuki Hiroshi and bossa nova songstress Lisa Ono, Katz directs, composes, arranges and plays piano for the group. In addition to originals and jazz and pop standards, TBB’s wide range of repertoire also includes fresh settings of traditional Japanese songs, which are featured on the group’s new CD SAKURA. Japanese people have grown up with these songs and enjoy hearing them reworked from a western jazz musician’s perspective. The first show from 16:30 admits children ages 6-18 at half price.
