Théodore Chassériau: Parfum Exotique

Théodore Chassériau was an influential French Romantic painter who was, at the tender age of 11, accepted into Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres’s studio and told he would be “the Napoleon of painting.”  He was a skilled artist of many media and inspired Puvis de Chavannes and Gustave Moreau, who in turn influenced artist Paul Gauguin Henri Matisse. With over 110 oil paintings, water colors, sketches and prints, this is the largest exhibition of his works to ever be displayed in Japan.
