Theatre Mangekyo Project: Disconnected

– (Schedule varies each day | Performance will run for roughly 2 hours)・Jul 15, 2021–Jul 18, 2021・Online

Theatre Mangekyo’s first public performance is an online “work-in-progress” theatre piece, heavily inspired by Japanese mythology. The project aims to break the long-belief notion that Japan is a homogenous society and, in turn, highlight the diversity often overshadowed beneath this facade. This is where the ensemble members emerge, chronicling the story of “modern-day gods” stuck in the “online sphere.” The team will hold an interactive online feedback session to polish the script after each workshop performance. By fine-tuning the storyline based on given comments, Theatre Mangekyo hopes to broaden representation and inclusion in Japanese theatres. Inspired by the Black Lives Matter Movement, the project stages a platform for the underrepresented voices to speak up and honors the communities that have always propelled the industry.
