Shinjuku Eisa Festival

The first Shinjuku Eisa Festival in three years will involve performances by many Eisa groups based in Tokyo. Eisa is a folk tradition originating from Okinawa that is a mixture of dance and song. It is celebrated during the Obon holiday as a way to pay homage to ancestors. This will be the 21st year of the festival, but the first time it is performed since the Covid-19 pandemic. The festival will take place around Shinjuku Station East and West exits.
