Sato Sakura Museum 5th Cherry Blossom Award Art Exhibition
As pink petals decorate trees across the country, it’s the perfect time to take a look at some artistic interpretations of the iconic sakura. The Sato Sakura Museum in Meguro specializes in contemporary nihonga – a style of painting using traditional Japanese techniques and materials. The Sato collection is comprised of work by Japanese nihonga artists born in the Showa period (1926-1989). Although the museum offers a chance to marvel at the beauty of cherry blossoms (and other floral delights) all year round, its annual cherry blossom award exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to focus on the popular flowering trees which are forever synonymous with springtime. And of course, you should take a stroll along the nearby Meguro river to feast your eyes on the real thing.
