SANGO Exhibition at Picaresque Art Gallery

11:00–16:00 (Open 13:00~18:00 on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, closed on Mondays)・Mar 16, 2021–Apr 18, 2021・Picaresque Art Gallery 4 Chome-54-7 Yoyogi, Shibuya City, Tokyo

In the current exhibition, Picaresque Art Gallery highlights the works of female artists who have experienced childbirth. In the global art scene, it is true that many female artists struggle in gaining recognition and value due to the stigma that their works change in quality after childbirth.

The word ‘sango’ in Japanese has two different meanings: one is ‘after childbirth’ and the other is ‘coral’. The exhibition title uses wordplay to depict motherhood as something that enriches and gives color to the artists’ lives and artworks, just like beautiful coral reefs.

You can check out some of the featured artworks on the official Instagram account.
