Phantasies Over Time: Hara Museum of Contemporary Art

Tokyo-based contemporary artist Mami Kosemura holds a solo exhibition, Phantasies Over Time,  at the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art through September 2.

Kosemura, whose “still-life movies” blend painting, photography and video, graduated from the Tokyo National University of the Arts with a doctorate in painting. She has received many accolades over the years for her work including  the Kume Award (1996) and the 26th Gotoh Cultural Award (2015).

Founded in 1979 in Shinagawa, the Hara Museum was the first contemporary art museum to open in Japan. The building’s architecture, a mix of early-Showa period with 20th century European, is a representation of the diverse range of artists it showcases.
