Norsk Billedvev – Norwegian Textile Exhibition
This exhibition of woven pictures showcases a variety of Keiko Yabuki’s contemporary Norwegian style weavings. Norway’s tapestry history dates back to viking times but has seen several revivals as it was passed down through generations as a folk art. In contrast to the extravagant and magnificent tapestries of mainland Europe which often used silk and metallic elements, Norwegian weaving traditionally uses thick wool dyed in rich deep hues to depict scenes of nature and folklore. Yabuki has been creating her own weavings since studying in Norway in the late 1960s.
