Ryugu The Turtle Princess New National Theatre Hatsudai Ballet Dance Tokyo Weekender Opera Palace

Ryugu: The Turtle Princess at New National Theatre *Canceled*

Dance, Family Attractions

The New National Theatre, Tokyo presents the world premiere of a ballet based on the story of Urashima Taro. Ryugu: The Turtle Princess is also the choreographic and directorial debut of Kaiji Moriyama, who starred in Katana (Sword) and has since established himself as one of Japan’s leading choreographers and dancers. The fairy tale on which The Turtle Princess is based follows the fisherman Urashima Taro who, after rescuing a turtle, is carried on its back to a palace beneath the sea. Moriyama describes it as a “Japanese-themed ballet fantasy,” fit for adults but sure to delight kids as well (especially the whimsical costume design). Performances will take place in the Theatre’s Opera Palace.
