An early summer flea market for local family clearouts and eager bargain hunters. Mottainai can be roughly translated as ‘What a waste!’ and is a phrase that encourages people to recycle, reuse and reduce waste. Mottainai flea markets are held regularly in the suburbs of Tokyo, this time appearing at the popular Komazawa Olympic Park. Up to 200 sellers will be offering up their unwanted items alongside a scattering of handmade goods. Expect mainly kids toys, home clutter and ornaments but dig deep and you may discover antiques, collectables and dirt cheap gadgets. Applications for sellers are accepted on the event homepage.
All vendors and visitors must wear a mask, please co-operate with social distancing measures and the organizers requests to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
