‘Mingei – Another Kind of Art’ Exhibition
Discover the beauty and style of everyday items and explore human’s connection with objects in this unique exhibition. Directed by product designer Naoto Fukasawa, the exhibition presents 146 traditional and contemporary Mingei items from The Japan Folk Crafts Museum’s collection. Mingei was a term first coined in 1925 to describe handmade useful items made by anonymous craftsmen, passed down from generation to generation. These diverse, charming and unique objects represent the diverse regions and inhabitants of Japan and prompt us to reconsider the everyday art we so often overlook.
