‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ at the New National Theatre
The New National Theatre, Tokyo is pleased to present the opening show of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. After a long hiatus since The Barber of Seville in February, the New National Theatre Opera group is performing the famous Shakespeare comedy starting this October, while taking heed of social distancing regulations. This version of the show, originally produced by David McVicar, and with art and costumes designed by Ray Smith, takes place in a rundown attic. Dialogue becomes a series of exchanges between men and women shrouded in darkness. Soloists like Fujiki Daichi and Iimori Norichika take the stage.
Tickets go on sale September 19.
