Meiji Jingu Spring Festival
One of Tokyo’s most popular and well-known shrines celebrates the changing season with its Spring Festival. During the festival period numerous events and Shinto ceremonies will take place, including one of the largest rituals of the year. The most important event is held on May 3 (from 10am), where shrine maidens will perform a kagura (sacred dance) based on the poem “Urayasu-no-Mai” to pray for worldwide peace and tranquility. Various performing arts, including noh, bugaku and kyogen, will be performed on a stage in front of the shrine buildings to honor the deities.
