Masks: Beauty of the Spirits

An exhibition of around 100 diverse masks from across the world marks Japan’s first scale display from the collection of The Musée Du Quai Branly. The French museum has garnered worldwide attention since its opening in 2006, now bringing some of its rare and precious items to Tokyo, beginning with the theme of masks. Masks can transform us, disguise us and conceal us: whether for performance or ritual the mask yields a powerful force it bestows on its wearer and the audience. Explore the variety of masks on display through their unique forms, materials and design, discover the true essence of the mask and even contemplate its place in the modern world.
