The Magic Flute Opera
The New National Theatre, Tokyo kicks off their 2018/2019 season with a new production of Mozart’s much-loved masterpiece, “Die Zauberflöte” (The Magic Flute). The work is full of familiar tunes such as the dazzling “Queen of the Night” aria, and includes spoken dialogue as is the custom with this type of German musical drama (known as Singspiel). Enjoy the celebrated staging of South African visual artist William Kentridge, who makes bold and imaginative use of animated film and projection, and notable international singers Mozartian tenor Steve Davislim, rising baritone Andrè Schuen and young Serbian bass Sava Vemic.
