MADSUCKY WUZ HERE 2018
Come admire MADSAKI’s crass wit and imagery in his second solo exhibition titled MADSUCKY WUZ HERE 2018 at the Kaikai Kiki Gallery. MADSAKI is an American-raised, Osaka-born artist known for his signature spray paint-splattered compositions and his satirical, dark take on the world. MADSAKI began honing his signature style only after he returned to Japan several years ago in his “Beyond Words” series. At first, one might judge the crass and foul language spray-painted across canvases to be just that— a myriad of jumbled English words to form something vulgar. But look deeper and you’ll find the isolation from being rejected by two cultures permeating through his works. Between discrimination back in the states and feeling estranged in a country he didn’t grow up in, MADSAKI found himself trapped between two worlds and started expressing his frustrations, inner-conflicts and hurt through the medium of spray paint. In MADSUCKY WUZ HERE 2018, MADSAKI faces himself head on and reflects on his struggles of being a Japanese-born American. His works will evoke shock, laughter and entertainment while making you look at his growth and evolution throughout the years.
Opening reception: October 5 | 18:00 to 20:00.
