The popular opera invites us to enter the world of Parisian high society in a tale of romance and tragedy as we follow the life of courtesan Violetta Valéry. La Traviata was original adapted from a novel based on a real life mistress, later transformed by Giuseppe Verdi’s incredible musical score. The opera contains many well-known pieces now frequently performed at gala concerts and even recognizable outside of the arts from their use in commercials, including “Libiamo ne’ lieti calici” and “Ah, fors’è lui-sempre libera.” An incredible cast has been curated for this production directed by Vincent Boussard and conducted by Riccardo Frizza. Irina Lungu takes to the stage at New National Theatre Tokyo for the first time in the role of Violetta. Sung in Italian with Japanese subtitles.
