Kaikai Kiki Gallery Exhibition: Ob

Art

Ob debuted at the age of 18 in 2011, when a new generation of artists who emerged with the rise of social media began gaining attention in Japan.

As part of this new generation who grew up in an environment where video games and social media have always been part of daily life, Ob explores the dreamy filter of the feminine psyche through the recurring motif of a wide-eyed young girl in her delicate, atmospheric paintings. Ob collaborated with renowned cosmetics line Shu Uemura in 2013 and has been featured numerous times at art fairs overseas.

The works on display at this exhibition were used during the shooting of the upcoming Netflix drama series Followers directed by Mika Ninagawa. Within the drama, Ob’s pieces are displayed in Kaikai Kiki Gallery as the works of the character Sunny.
