‘Japan’s Secret Shame’ Film Screening
TELL Japan presents a special screening of the BBC documentary which centers around the case of a woman’s public rape allegation and the #metoo movement in Japan. Originally aired in the UK in June 2018, ‘Japan’s Secret Shame’ tells the moving story of Shiori Ito, the journalist who bravely spoke out about rape and sexual violence in Japan following her own alleged assault. The film addresses social issues and attitudes relating to gender and sexual violence in a nation which still remains in 110th place in the global gender equality rankings.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion and is free to attend but donations to TELL (a mental health and counselling NPO) will be gratefully received.
