Hokusai Updated

An extensive large scale exhibition of work by renowned Edo era ukiyo-e painter and printmaker Katsushika Hokusai. Hokusai’s most famous works include the Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series of landscape woodblock prints which triggered the Japonism movement that swept through Europe in the 19th century. In addition to his well-known works, this exhibition shines a spotlight on other lesser known pieces, including recently discovered works and works on public display for the first time. The exhibition supervisor and a major collector of Hokusai’s art has donated his entire 2,000-piece collection to his hometown in Shimane Prefecture, which makes this the last chance to see the work in Tokyo and take a close up look at the artist’s impressive 70-year career.
