Hakone Daimyo Gyoretsu

Markets & Festivals, Traditional Events

This annual event held on November 3rd sees a re-enactment of the lavish processions of feudal lords who would travel to Edo during the reign of the Tokugawa clan. The regional lords were forced to spend alternate years residing in Edo (now Tokyo) and spent large amounts of money on spectacular parades featuring music and entertainers as they made their arrival. The event is held around the Hakone Yumato area in Kanagawa, where visitors can enjoy seeing people dressed up in historical costumes and feel the atmosphere and excitement of the procession. Nearby hot springs and the local scenery are more than enough reason to make the journey to the area, located less than two hours from Shinjuku Station.
