Edo String Puppetry & Comic Storytelling

As part of the traditional culture and performing arts experience and appreciation program for foreign visitors, Arts Council Tokyo presents an evening of Edo string puppetry & comic storytelling. “What Bunshichi Mottoi Did in Edo Old Town” will introduce the classic end of the year rakugo “Bunshichi Mottoi” performed by Edo string puppetry. There will be an exhibition of the history of the puppet dolls in the lobby and after the performance visitors can even touch the dolls and experience string puppetry firsthand. The event takes place at the heart of the story’s origin, Ryogoku, further harnessing the spirit and culture of Edo times.
