The 16th Dream Yosokoi Festival takes over the Odaiba area for three days of lively dancing and cheer. Simultaneous offshoot events will also take place in Akihabara and Marunouchi on the 5th. Yosakoi is a unique style of dancing combining traditional Japanese moves with modern music – think somewhere between awa-odori and cheerleading! Teams perform their choreographed routines in colorful historically inspired costumes, punctuating the dancing with energetic shouts, flag waving and hand percussion. On Saturday and Sunday night there will be a special Halloween parade of traditional Japanese inspired costumes from samurai suits to kimono, with everyone welcome to participate or just enjoy the sights and sounds. (Participation in the costume parade and contest requires advance or day registration ¥1,000-¥1,500) Check the website for full details.
