As part of the NNTT 20th Anniversary program there are a handful of chances to see Richard Strauss’ grand opera, Der Rosenkavalier. Set in high society Vienna, the masterpiece deals with the passing of time and new loves through the four central characters. The production is directed by Jonathan Miller, boasting a phenomenal cast including world-class Wagnerian soprano, Ricarda Merbeth as Marschallin and Golda Schultz, as Sophie, making her debut performance on the NNTT stage. The elegant score is brought to life by the New National Theatre Chorus and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Ulf Schirmer. Sung in German with Japanese subtitles.
