Uplink Shibuya presents a program of glorious Czech animation from the 1960s-1980s. This celebration of the magical age of Czech animation features 140 short films showcasing a wide variety of charming styles and stories. During the communist era of Czechoslovakia, freedom of artists expression was severely restricted, which led to numerous artists and creators pouring their skills and talent into the loophole of creating content “for children.” From the life affirming and poetic to fantastical and quirky, these animations can still amaze and delight audiences of all ages. Each screening presents a different selection of films (although some films may be duplicated in the program)
