Shiota Chiharu: The Soul Trembles
Berlin-based international artist Chiharu Shiota is well-known for her series of powerful installations consisting of threads primarily in red and black strung across entire spaces. This will be her largest-ever solo exhibition to date, and the first opportunity to experience in detail her 20-year oeuvre, featuring six large installations, plus sculptural works, video footage of performances, photographs, drawings, performing arts-related material, etc.
Three small exhibitions will run concurrently with Shiota Chiharu: The Soul Trembles.
• MAM Collection 101: Fake News?
This exhibition makes observations on the true nature of how information is produced in the mass media.
• MAM Screen 011: Takata Fuyuhiko
Video artist Takata Fuyuhiko deals with themes as diverse as religion, myth, fairytales, gender, trauma, sex, and the BL ( “Boys’ Love” ) manga genre, in humorous, occasionally erotic videos with a pop sensibility.
• MAM Research 007: Sodeisha – The Dawn of Contemporary Japanese Ceramics
This exhibition looks back on the activities of a group of postwar Japanese ceramicists seeking a new kind of expression in a space between tradition and innovation, and considers the significance of their oeuvre as contemporary ceramic art.
