Bunkyo Azalea Festival
Nezu Shrine in Bunkyo ward holds a yearly Azalea Festival coinciding with the blooming of its gorgeous garden. For a small fee, visitors can take a stroll through the mounds of pink and purple azalea bushes in an enclosed area of the grounds that is usually inaccessible. The shrine also has a stunning long torii pathway, as well as a small pond with turtles and various religious structures – plenty to see whilst you’re there. A tea house serving refreshments will be open from April 15 to May 5, and a series of traditional performances and events will be taking place throughout the month long festival. Try to avoid the weekend if you don’t like getting slowed down by the crowds snapping photos, although being stuck in a mountain of beautiful flowers really isn’t so bad.
