Autumn Leaves and Illuminations at Rikugien Gardens
As part of the garden’s annual seasonal calendar, mid November sees the best of the stunning Fall foliage lit up with after dark illuminations. Rikugien Gardens boasts some of the most famous koyo, or autumn leaves, in the city – the site’s history dates back to the Edo period when it was built by Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu, who was inspired by waka poetry. During the illuminations, the yellow, gold and fiery red leaves are lit up around the gardens and pond for visitors to enjoy, perfect for a romantic date or an after work stroll. Light refreshments will be available and opening hours are extended, although some parts of the gardens may be closed for safety reasons.
