Looking for a last-minute family vacation destination for next month? If you head to Hakuba, you could get the best of both worlds: a nature-filled getaway for you, and a fun summer school program for the kids offered by Hakuba International School.

If you’re wondering why you haven’t heard of Hakuba International School (HIS) until now, there’s no need to question whether you’ve had your head stuck in the snow all winter – for 2016 bears a year of firsts for HIS.

The school, which is still under development, held its first holiday program this spring, while advising Hakuba’s residents and education board of its long-term intentions: HIS aims to establish a world-class educational institution with boarding facilities in the beautiful valley by 2020. The planned school will cater to students aged from 12 to 18 and be based on the International Baccalaureate Program curriculum.
