Skating Away at Toshimaen’s Winter Fantasia

Toshimaen has turned on their lights for the ongoing Winter Fantasy event taking place during the bitter winter months. The hanging holiday illuminations, stretched from tree to tree, don’t overdo it like Yomiuriland, with the quiet forest acting as a buffer to the screeches and screams from the coasters throughout the park. Outdoor seating is open, with light canopies protecting diners as they watch others skate nearby.

That’s right, even our favorite quaint amusement park has something Tokyo Disneyland doesn’t: an ice skating rink. Open now until late February, guests can skate by day or night, under the illumination. Without the congestion of Disneyland or the distance of Fuji Q, and all of the childhood memories in one place, what’s to lose? Lessons for beginners are also offered during lulls in the day. For those who don’t fancy skating for hours, there is a pop-up carnival encircling the rink to explore.
