Japanese fans at the stadium in Recife take sportsmanship to another level, following a disappointing loss to Ivory Coast.

Most of the time that you hear about football fans taking matters into their own hands, things don’t end well. That’s why it was refreshing, and unexpected, to hear what the supporters of Samurai Blue did following their match against Ivory Coast, which their side lost 2-1. As pictures show, following the end of the match, several fans for Japan made sure to leave the section of the stadium as clean (if not cleaner) than it was when they left it.

If you’ve been to sporting events in Japan, you will have seen this before, but it’s still a great thing to see on a major stage, and particularly following a defeat. Here’s hoping that other nations’ supporters take a cue from this example.
