Tokyo Crowned “Best Overall Experience” by TripAdvisor

On the heels of being named the world’s smartest city of 2014, Tokyo took another title this week as the global destination that offers the best overall experience, selected by travelers of TripAdvisor.

Over 54,000 travelers participated in the survey sent out to those who have written reviews on the world’s largest travel site in 2013. Sixteen categories were evaluated, and in addition to the “Best Overall Experience,” Tokyo took the number one spot for four more categories (check it out below!)

Tokyo ranked in the top 10 for all but three categories, taking the number two spot for “Comfort of Traveling Alone,” behind Singapore, and “Friendliest Taxi Drivers,” behind Dubrovnik. Tokyo ranked number three in “Best for Restaurants,” behind NYC and Cape Town, and “Best for Nightlife,” behind NYC and London.

Although tourism dropped drastically after the disaster in 2011, international visits seem to have made a strong recovery with over 10 million tourists in 2013 and an average 28% increase in visitors year over year from January to March in 2014, according to JNTO and Japan Tourism Marketing Co.

Now, for the number one spots, here are more reasons to be proud of our city:
