Tourist agency prepares trips for stuffed animals

This Japanese travel agency caters only to stuffed animals.

Back when nobody understood you or when you woke up in the middle of the night because of a bad dream, you’d only have to cuddle with Teddy the bear or Ellie the stuffed elephant with her oversized ears and everything would be fine.

Even if nobody would admit it, these stuffed animals were your first and best friends. What better way to thank them for their loyal friendship than a trip around the world?

A Japanese travel agency took a page from French movie Amelie—when Amelie steals her introverted father’s garden gnome and sends it on a world tour to persuade him to pursue his dreams to travel the globe. His father would receive photos of the gnome with world landmarks on the background.

For fans of Toy Story, this is for you.

The aptly named Japan Travel Agency for Stuffed Animals lets your teddy bear or a couple of your stuffed animals go on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure visiting tourist destinations in Japan.

They will even take photos as proof of their sojourn while you sit at home and miss all the fun, all for the price of $35 to $55. Owners will have to pay for shipping to Japan but they will send your toy back for free.

According to the travel website, tour packages include visits to onsen (hot springs), the shopping district of Shibuya, historic Buddhist temples at Asakusa, and the Tokyo Tower.

There’s even a “mystery tour” where the destination is revealed at the last minute.

If you want your stuffed toy to send a postcard and a “printed commemorative photograph,” it will cost you $45.

While some find this idea adorable and have recovered their stuffed toys from the closet where they sit gathering dust, no doubt others would be creeped out by the idea of seemingly giving life to an inanimate object.
