Dozens of Japanese revelers were hurt in an explosion at a grand fireworks festival in Kyoto Prefecture.
The blast Thursday evening was apparently set off by a gas cylinder near a drinks and snacks counter, according to NHK.
Moments before the fireworks display, a loud explosion was heard, throwing the counter and other objects in the air. A fire started as people fled from the scene.
Sixty-one people were taken to hospital, including two who were seriously injured with burns over their entire bodies.
The fireworks show at the summer festival, which attracted about 110,000 spectators last year, was cancelled after the blast, Kyodo News reports.
