Polka Dots in Roppongi

Prepare your eyes: Yayoi Kusuma’s ubiquitous polka dots will cover Roppongi Hills this summer.

The tenth anniversary of the architectural wonder that is Roppongi Hills is cause for large-scale celebrations. The Mori Arts Museum is already putting on its “All You Need is Love” exhibition, which we highly recommend hitting if you haven’t yet. In addition to featuring her works in this fascinating showcase, Yayoi Kusuma is extending her signature polka dots all over Roppongi Hills: a cafe, beer garden and standing bar will all bear the playful dots.

The Mizutama Garden, located on the rooftop plaza of Roppongi Hills, will not only serve refreshments and light meals, but will also feature iconic images from the famous Japanese artist. Also set to open later in the summer, a cafe called “Watashi no daishiki no watashi” (loosely translated to “To me who I like”) will open for a short period of 12 days, serving an original menu inspired by the artist’s creations, so we’re curious to see what dishes they cook up – we’re sure they’ll be eye candy.

If that’s not nearly enough polka dots for you, you can take them home in the form of dishes and kitchen ware, which will be sold at the souvenir shop on the premises. They make for great, stylish gifts, and well, you can never have too many polka dots.
