Uniqlo Marche

By Vivian Morelli

You can always count on Uniqlo to bring cutting edge ideas to the retail world: after pleasing electronic enthusiasts while pairing up with Bic Camera last month for the Biqclo store in Shinjuku, it’s now time to indulge fashionistas…

As Ginza is now revamping its image with fresh, trendy brands, the swanky district is now more accessible to a younger crowd and no longer limited to the upper (and elderly?) classes. Printemps Ginza, the Japanese branch of renowned Parisian department store Printemps, has teamed up with the ubiquitous Japanese brand Uniqlo to open a multi-brand shop called Uniqlo Marche.

The shop opened last week on November 2, and if you haven’t been yet, you should run there before everything goes. The shop carries five different brands to appeal to different kinds of consumers: Uniqlo (of course), g.u. (which belongs to the same family as Uniqlo, but cheaper, if you can believe that’s possible), PLST (“plus T”, a collaboration brand), Comptoir des Cotonniers (a well-known French brand with good basics) and Princesse Tam-Tam (another popular French brand of gorgeous, feminine lingerie).

Fashionistas who have a flair for Parisian style will simply adore this shop, and it’s a great excuse to go shopping in Ginza if it’s a neighbourhood you tend to forgo. If you’re interested, take a look at the company’s manifesto for the new branch – including talk of so-called Fashion Sommelière in store…
