Fiat Space in Aoyama welcomes Tokyo Culture club – an event worth stretching your weekend for.

Skip the Thursday blues (that feeling you may get when the week is almost, almost but not quite over…) put on your dancing shoes and get down at the Tokyo Culture Club, a bona fide dance party that will keep you boogying until the end. The DJs will spin an eclectic mix of disco and 80s tunes: expect some Kim Carnes, Toto, Peter Gabriel, Prince, Blondie, Rick James, The Pointer Sisters, Ministry, Wham! and Cindy Lauper.

If that playlist is not enough to make you brave the dark, chilly October evenings, maybe the cheap drinks will, a steal at ¥500 a pop before 10pm. This is a regular party, taking place on the 2nd Thursday evening of every month at Fiat space in Aoyama, so if you miss out this time, pop it in your diary.

The organizers of this event are already pretty established on the Tokyo scene, and their Showa Kayo Night (which rolls back time to play Japanese music from the 50s-early 80s) is getting a fair bit of well-deserved attention: it was recently featured in GQ Japan magazine, and interviews will soon be aired on Fuji TV and ZIP TV.

For having danced to the tunes of those DJs, I can guarantee it will be a good time. Just beware: you’re likely to find yourself hopping around the dance floor to “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go” before you know it. (Vivian Morelli)
